We gutted the original 1964 kitchen down to the studs/plywood, put in new windows, moved plumbing, installed new appliances, new cabinets, new tile floors and new countertops. We also doubled the size of the kitchen. During Thanksgiving, we had 6 adults in the new kitchen and nobody was even running into each other.
